Learning and Sharing

A key deliverable of both The CWEGE and the UNESCO Chair on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment is to share our research and best practices with the world. Our work is designed to contribute to building stronger, more resilient communities where all members are empowered. A part of this effort is making our perspectives and solutions available for other stakeholders so they might also benefit. Researchers and staff at CWEGE and AMMACHI Labs participate in international events, conduct collaborations with Government bodies in India and around the world, publish reports, Best Practices, and Policy Briefs, work with Industry Leaders, and partner with UN agencies whenever possible. A key deliverable from AWESOME, our framework for mapping vulnerabilities, measuring impact, and designing interventions, is to empower all stakeholders with the tools and capacities to most benefit society.

The goal of this initiative is twofold: (1) to propose a framework to develop a road map for vulnerability and capacity composite maps for India; simultaneously (2) to develop an academic program on vulnerability and capacity mapping with an emphasis on gender equality and women’s empowerment. Ultimately, the Centre hopes to influence the development of policy and interventional strategies in order to prevent and/or mitigate risk and reducing vulnerabilities, thus increasing the resilience of women and girls across the region. The findings will also highlight areas requiring additional resources in order to protect women and girls. There will be a separate focus on the girl child.

How & Where We Share

As a holder of the UNESCO Chair in Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment, we are committed to furthering the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and contributing to UN efforts in India. AMMACHI Labs + The CWEGE have a long history in working alongside the UN, stemming from the parent organization, the M. A. Math. Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, chancellor of Amrita University and leader, founder of the MA Math has been recognized by the UN for contributions to humanitarian causes and for promoting the SDGs. On July 24, 2005, in recognition of MAM's outstanding disaster-relief work and other humanitarian activities, the United Nations conferred Special Consultative Status to MAM, with its Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), thus enabling collaboration with UN agencies. AMMACHI labs has also been awarded two funding grants by the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF) to conduct projects in India for women’s empowerment. The CWEGE is currently working alongside UNICEF India to promote child protection in child-care centers and contributes to UNICEF’s WASH programs across the country.
