Dr. Tarek Rashed is the Vice President and Chief Technical Officer of Civilizology LLC, a private research and development company headquartered in Wyoming, USA. He also currently serves as an Adjunct Professor at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham University and as an International Consultant for Disaster Preparedness with the Crisis Bureau of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Barbados. Dr. Rashed held former positions of Senior Research Professor and Director of Geoinformatics at Indiana University, and several faculty positions on various capacities at the University of Redlands, University of Oklahoma, University of Southern California, New Mexico State University, and Austin Community College. He has been a geospatial technology scientist for over 26 years, pursuing an academic and professional multidisciplinary path, combining architectural engineering, computer science, geographical information systems (GIS), and remote sensing fields. He has managed 40+ research projects totaling over US$ 250 million in a variety of industries, funded by international and U.S. agencies, including UNDP, the World Bank, FEMA, NASA, and NSF. Dr. Rashed has published extensively in scholarly journals related to the field of geospatial technologies, including a best-seller textbook on Urban Remote Sensing. His Ph.D. dissertation received the prestigious Gilbert White Award for best doctoral dissertations in the U.S. from the American Association of Geographers (AAG) in 2004. He was appointed a secretary for the University Consortium for Geographic Informatics Science (USGIS), an elected board member of the American Society of Photogrammetric Engineering and Remote Sensing (ASPERS), and a delegate for Oklahoma in the National States Geographic Information Council (NSGIC).
