Deadline Extended to June 8th, 2021!

Join us for our 1st Annual Gender Etiquette Film Competition

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and the UNESCO Chair for Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equality are launching the first annual short film competition. Media is an integral part of our lives, and only by engaging critically with the media that we consume can attitudes begin to shift and with them, stereotypes change. This yearly event is designed to foster creativity in Amrita students and raise awareness about important themes that impact daily life.

This year’s theme is gender-sensitive behaviours and etiquette. We invite all Amrita students to submit an original 30 second film clip with a caption that addresses a behaviour you would like to see a change in - whether it is in public spaces on campus, in the classroom, or in virtual spaces that are commonly inhabited by students.

Ladies - what do you wish the guys in university would do differently? And gents - how about your perspective? Behaviour changes require awareness - let’s help each other gain awareness of the things that can be improved. We want to create spaces that are based on kindness, respect, and value of one another.

These winning submissions will be featured on our social media accounts and on Amrita TV.

Info and Guidelines

This is open to Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham students on all campuses, and we encourage everyone to participate.

The criteria that will be used to evaluate submissions will consider several factors, including adherence to the theme, creativity in portraying a relevant issue, creativity in how to address said issue, meaningful representation of the issue, and overall cleverness.

This is not a competition that will take technical skills into account, so the emphasis of all submissions should be on the theme and topic – on the behaviour that needs to be changed.

Submissions will first be evaluated by a screening committee, who will ensure submissions are relevant and appropriate. If a video submission has any similarities to known individuals (current or former students, staff, faculty, etc.), it will automatically be disqualified. If the video depicts inappropriate behaviours in a crude or lewd manner, it will be disqualified. While the competition wishes to foster creativity in the students, inappropriate issues must be represented with kindness and compassion, and cannot be simply gratuitous.

Once the initial screening has been completed, all videos will be uploaded to the AmmachiLabs/CWEGE Instagram account with the hashtag #genderetiquetteamrita21. This is where entrants can become more involved in the process – share the Instagram videos with your friends and families – encourage them to like and share as well, and we will incorporate public feedback into our second round of screening. The more likes and shares a video gets, the higher its chances of proceeding on to the next round.

Submissions will be accepted until: June 8, 2021

Submissions that meet the initial criteria will be posted to social media on: July 15, 2021

Short-listed films will be submitted to the judge’s panel on: August 7, 2021
