
Backyard Composting Course
Course Description
This project aims at developing e-Learning content for the Backyard composting course. The course is aimed at empowering rural women to gain the necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes to turn organic waste into manure using locally available tools and materials. This project aims at imparting a useful and practical skill whereby they can transform organic waste generated daily at home or surrounding areas into rich fertilizer for manuring their gardens.
The course covers the following competencies:
- Possess a knowledge of the need and importance of composting.
- Gain the knowledge of composting as a natural process.
- Perform thermophilic and Mesophilic types of composting.
- Apply and use compost for different designated purposes.
Additionally students can also go into business and generate income by selling the high quality organic manure thus prepared in local or domestic markets.
