
The Gender Equality Working Group participates in Civil 20 Summit in Jaipur
The 2023 Civil 20 Summit in Jaipur (July 29-31, 2023) brought together top leaders from around the world. The three-day Final Summit of Civil20 (C20), an official Engagement Group of G20 witnessed the presentation of the C20 Communique, a comprehensive inclusive survey and policy recommendations developed by its 16 Working Groups. One of the working groups was our own Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Working Group.
On Day 1, the morning began with an important Steering Committee Meeting which convened leaders from all the working groups in a session to collaborate and strategize.
In the afternoon, the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Working Group hosted a dynamic Break-Out Session held in a packed hall with standing room only. Representatives from various sectors, including government, private sector, the UN, and CSOs, actively participated in discussions– beyond mere recommendations towards concrete policy implementation. The sessions were moderated by Dr. Bhavani Rao, India Coordinator and Meg Jones, International Coordinator. Panelists included: Charu Sinha, Inspector General of the Central Reserve Police Force (India); Adi Altschuler, Krembo Wings Israel; Pedro Boca, Abong, Brazil; Binny Buchori, The Prakarsa, Indonesia.
It was also announced that One Million Lights Campaign for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment surpassed 1.1 Million lights symbolising the collective power underscored through Amma’ own vision for C20: #YouAreTheLight. A symbolic lamp was passed on to the Brazil Troika represented by Pedro Boca. Brazil will host the G20 in 2024.
Later in the afternoon, the Civil 20 Inaugural program took place. The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Amma, Chair of Civil 20 India 2023; Shri Rajnath Singh, the Minister of Defence, Govt. of India; and Smt. Shakuntla Rawat, Minister of State Enterprises of Rajasthan, as well as many prominent speakers who passionately articulated their commitment to face global challenges.











The Civil 20 Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Working Group had organized an impressive series of 1350 events, including more than 40 policy discussions through a network of hundreds of CSOs. In the course of this outreach, CSO’s from all over the world voiced their opinions and shared valuable insights. As a result, the Working Group successfully gathered over 1000 policy recommendations.
With Chancellor Amma’s leadership and the collective determination of the global community, the C20 Summit concluded with renewed hope for building a more equitable, sustainable, and compassionate world.
