August 14 2024 : In a heartening event that highlighted the transformative power of education and community empowerment, 24 women from Thiruppalaikkudi Village proudly received their certificates, marking the successful completion of a comprehensive seaweed farming training program. This initiative, organized by Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham in collaboration with the Center for Women’s Empowerment & Gender Equality (CWEGE), and supported by Transworld Group, is designed to equip women with sustainable livelihood skills that promote economic independence and environmental conservation.
A Celebration of Achievement and Empowerment
The graduation ceremony, a significant milestone for the community, was inaugurated by Sampooja Swami Ajamritananda Puri, who served as the chief guest. Swami Ajamritananda Puri personally distributed the certificates to the graduates, recognizing their hard work and commitment. The event was also graced by village leaders Abbas and Sasikani, who have been pivotal in supporting the community throughout the training program.
In his address, Sasikani emphasized the profound impact this training has had not only on the women but also on the broader community. He highlighted how the skills acquired through the program have opened new opportunities for economic empowerment and sustainable living.
Mrs. Reshma Ramesh, Vice Chair of the Department of Social Work at Amrita University, provided an insightful overview of the seaweed farming project, explaining how it aligns with Amma’s vision of community development and empowerment. She also discussed other initiatives inspired by this vision, which aim to foster self-reliance and environmental stewardship among local communities.
