Bheeri Village, Uttarakhand | April 5, 2025 — In a powerful display of grassroots activism, the women of Bheeri Village came together to raise awareness and demand action against the growing threat of forest fires in their region. As temperatures rise and summer takes hold, the frequency of wildfires has increased—often due to human negligence. In response, the village’s women, including members of the AMMACHI Labs Women’s Self-Help Groups, organized a community event aimed at both education and advocacy.
Leading the initiative was Smt. Chanda Devi, former village head and current President of the Mahila Mangal Dal. She formally submitted a written proposal to the Forest Department, urging immediate legal action against individuals found guilty of deliberately igniting forest fires.
As part of the event, a poster competition was held, where participants—many of them local youth and women—showcased innovative and artistic ideas to prevent forest fires. These creative contributions served not only to educate, but also to foster a spirit of community-led environmental stewardship.
“This is about protecting our forests, our homes, and our future generations,” said Chanda Devi. “When we act with dharma—righteous responsibility—even small steps can create lasting impact.”
Through collective action and a sense of shared responsibility, the women of Bheeri Village are setting an inspiring example of how local communities can take charge in preserving the natural world. Their call for accountability, awareness, and legal reinforcement underscores a deep-rooted commitment to environmental well-being.
