Dhenkanal, Odisha – May 29, 2025 – In a remarkable milestone under AMMACHI Labs’ Wadi Project, 30 women from the villages of Kurumitha and Krushnachandrapur in Hindol Block, Dhenkanal, are reaping the rewards of their dedication to sustainable goat rearing and community development.
As part of a livelihood initiative spearheaded by Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and supported by NABARD Online, each woman received three goats in late 2024—totaling 90 goats across both villages. Just seven months later, these goats have produced 63 healthy kids, a testament to the women’s diligent animal husbandry practices and the strength of their newly formed Goat Rearing Group.
But the impact didn’t stop at livestock. Recognizing the daily challenges faced by villagers—particularly the long 1 km walk for water—the project team facilitated the installation of four borewells (two per village), giving families and livestock access to clean, reliable drinking water. This has drastically improved sanitation, reduced the labor burden on women, and enhanced the health of both people and animals.
Impact Highlights:
🐐 90 goats distributed to 30 women
🎉 63 baby goats born in 7 months
💧 4 borewells installed, replacing daily water treks
🚶🏽♀️ 1 km walk for water—now history
🌱 2 villages transformed, with healthier livestock and empowered women
✅ All goats healthy and thriving
This initiative exemplifies a holistic approach to rural development—combining economic upliftment with improved access to essential resources. It also highlights the power of women’s leadership in driving grassroots change.
Special thanks go to the District Development Manager of NABARD Dhenkanal, whose support and encouragement have been instrumental in the success of this initiative.
“Each goat born and each borewell dug represents more than just numbers—they are steps toward dignity, economic security, and long-term sustainability.”
Through efforts like these, AMMACHI Labs continues to champion integrated development—where livelihood, water access, women’s empowerment, and community resilience go hand-in-hand.
