We are delighted to share that the School of Social and Behavioural Sciences (SSBS), Amritapuri, at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham has undertaken a prestigious international research project centered on Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, fondly known as Amma.
Exploring Spirituality and Humanitarianism
The project, titled “The Religion of Love and the Divine Feminine: From Mystical Experience to Humanitarianism in the Global Amma Movement,” seeks to explore the deep spiritual philosophies and expansive humanitarian efforts that define Amma’s global mission. It aims to examine how mystical experiences translate into large-scale social impact, highlighting the role of compassion, service, and the divine feminine in contemporary society.
A Global Academic Collaboration
This significant research initiative is being carried out in collaboration with Tampere University, Finland, and is generously supported by the Templeton Foundation, USA. The partnership reflects a meaningful convergence of global academic perspectives on spirituality and social transformation.
Leadership and Research Excellence
The project is led by Dr. Bhavani Rao R, Dean of SSBS and Principal Investigator, alongside Dr. François Gauthier, Adjunct Faculty at Amrita University and Co-Principal Investigator. Their combined expertise brings strong academic depth and international insight to this interdisciplinary research.
Bridging Scholarship and Social Impact
This initiative stands as a remarkable example of how academic research can bridge spirituality, scholarship, and global humanitarian engagement. By studying Amma’s movement through a scholarly lens, the project contributes to a deeper understanding of faith-based service and its transformative potential across cultures.
Heartfelt congratulations to the entire team for this inspiring and impactful collaboration.
