November 1-3, 2023 – Dr. Maneesha Sudheer Ramesh, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Provost, and Dr. Bhavani Rao, Dean, Amrita School for Social & Behavioural Sciences, and AMMACHI Labs & CWEGE director, participated in the UNESCO’s 10th South and Central Asian Biosphere Reserve Network Meeting (SACAM), “From Ridge to Reef”, held in Chennai.
The event brought together Biosphere Reserve stakeholders from the global south and north, beyond South & Central Asia, so experiences, challenges, ideas and best practices can be shared on a wide international scale, including with United Nations agencies.
In her talk on ‘Empowering Communities in Ecosystem Restoration: Pioneering Initiatives and Success Stories’, Dr. Ramesh showcased Amrita’s initiatives on eco-restoration among other topics.
Dr. Rao was a speaker for the breakout session “Mobilizing Youth and Women in support of Biosphere Reserve” and the spokesperson during the event’s exhibition where she presented the “Braided River” book findings and related the importance of women in science for Sustainability and Biosphere Reserve.
