Certificates for TSSP officers – Sameekshanam, Be Calm Be Compassionate

November 6, 2023 – The Telangana State Special Police (TSSP) Battalions Additional Director General of Police, Smt. Swati Lakra, IPS, and Dr. Bhavani R Rao, Dean of the School of Social & Behavioral Sciences at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, awarded certificates to the twenty -nine TSSP constabulary and officers who successfully completed the MITRA “Sameekshanam – Be Calm Be Compassionate” Training of Trainers program in Hyderabad in October 2023.

Twenty senior officers, Commandants, and second-in-command officers from 13 different TSSP battalions gathered at Yousufguda in Secunderabad, Telangana, for the “Champions of Change” one-day workshop for senior officers led by Amrita Dean, Dr. Bhavani Rao R, and researchers and trainers from the Center for Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equality CWEGE.

This workshop provided TSSP Commanding Officers with valuable insights into the 15-day training program for 29 TSSP personnel, which concluded at CRPF, Group Center, Rangareddy, Telangana. The comprehensive 15-day Training of Trainers (ToT) aimed at reducing stress, breaking down gender norms, strengthening family bonds, and enhancing self-awareness and financial skills for the constabulary. The ToT concluded after a comprehensive written test and presentation test, following which the candidates were awarded a Master Trainer certificate.

During the one-day workshop, the Commandants and officers had a chance to experience the benefits of the MITRA, SAMEEKSHANAM-Be Calm, Be Compassionate program firsthand and devise strategies for implementing it within their respective battalions. The project coordinator was Ms. Nandini Shah, and the lead researcher was Ms. Radhika Mohan. The Mental Health content for the project was designed by Ms. Malini Fey. The Family and Gender content was developed by Ms. Radhika Mohan, Masculinity Reflections by Mr. Christopher Coley, and inputs from Mr. Vishal Iyer. Finance was handled by Ms. Yamuna Bonin. The ToT training was conducted in Telugu by Mrs. Arpita Mannam, Dr. Pragnatha Komaravolu, Br. Vivek, Mr. Vishal Iyer, and supported by Ms. Radhika Shetty. The program implementation will be monitored using an App developed in partnership with OMNEX.

These newly certified 29 Master Trainers have now begun leading workshops in their battalions under SAMEEKSHANAM, the “MITRA” workshop series, spreading positive change within the force. The project aims to touch the lives of over 13,000 TSSP personnel in Telangana by 2024 Dec.
