“Diversion of ration from fair-price shops is a common problem being faced by the citizens for which the #RightToInformation Act has been a panacea.” (Source – http://www.rtifoundationofindia.com/)
Yesterday, AMMACHI Labs’ deployment team had an important meeting on #RTI with the #SHG women in Udalka village, Uttarakhand. Women were worried about not getting their monthly ration on time and there was a suggestion from the group to file for an RTI. Before taking such action they wanted to meet the shopkeeper once more but as usual he denied their monthly ration. This whole incident led the women to move forward with an RTI, hearing about this move, shopkeeper immediately agreed to give the ration and signed and gave an agreement to the villagers.
But the #SHG women were not satisfied so they went to the Sub Divisional Magistrate office and in the absence of the SDM, the Tehsildar immediately went to the Ration shop and asked shopkeeper about the incident and warned strict action will be taken against him if he denies ration to the villagers.
