Rameswaram, June 5, 2025 — In celebration of World Environment Day, Dr. Bhavani Rao, Director of AMMACHI Labs and the Center for Women’s Empowerment & Gender Equality, led a team from AMMACHI Labs to the GEF Project’s Multi-Stakeholder Meeting in Rameswaram. The event brought together key players in environmental governance, including the District Collector, representatives from Green Rameswaram, and various government departments.
Dr. Rao spotlighted AMMACHI Labs’ pioneering initiative, “Blue is the New Pink: Women Driving Sustainable Seaweed Cultivation and Climate Solutions.” The project showcases the vital role women play in spearheading ocean-based climate resilience and sustainable livelihood practices in coastal communities.
The meeting marked a significant step forward in building strong, collaborative networks among government bodies, civil society, and research institutions. Discussions emphasized the need for integrated approaches to coastal and marine sustainability, with a special focus on gender-inclusive strategies.
