Gender Harmony Project Launched in Kolar to Strengthen Grassroots Response to Gender-Based Violence

On March 24, 2026, the Gender Harmony Project—implemented by Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham under the Center for Women’s Empowerment & Gender Equality—was officially inaugurated at the Zilla Panchayat Hall in Kolar, Karnataka. The initiative will be implemented across 10 villages in the Kolar district.

The Gender Harmony Project is a community-based, multi-stakeholder initiative designed to strengthen systems that prevent and respond to gender-based violence, with a particular focus on intimate partner violence. By building strong linkages between institutions, communities, and households, the project aims to enable effective support systems, referral mechanisms, and accountability at the grassroots level.

Adopting an integrated and research-driven approach, the program combines institutional strengthening, community mobilisation, and household engagement. It is guided by a survivor-centred framework, ensuring that safety, ethics, and dignity remain central to all interventions.

Rooted in the humanitarian vision of Mata Amritanandamayi Devi, the initiative reflects a philosophy of compassion in action. As Amma says, “There is no problem which love cannot solve.” At AMMACHI Labs and CWEGE, this belief translates into sustained community engagement where service becomes an expression of care and responsibility.

The inauguration ceremony was marked by the traditional lamp lighting in the presence of distinguished dignitaries, including Brahmachari Nishkamamrita Chaitanya, Director of Amrita Charitable Hospital, Bengaluru; Dr. Praveen P. Bagewadi, IAS, CEO of Zilla Panchayat, Kolar; Dr. Drishti Marwaha, Program Lead for the Gender Harmony Project and Assistant Professor at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham; Sri Natesh R., Senior Civil Judge and Member Secretary, DSLA, Kolar; Sri Narayanswamy, Deputy Director, Women and Child Development, Kolar; Srimati Nagaratna V., Program Officer, District Child Protection Unit; and Sri Munirajappa B. M., CDPO, Women and Child Development, Kolar.
