Gender Harmony

Community-Based Implementation & Prevention Systems Strengthening

A Community-Anchored Approach to Prevent & Respond to Gender-Based Violence

Strengthening village systems to ensure safety, coordination, and accountability.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

About the Project

The Gender Harmony project delivers a curriculum that trains women and community leaders in digital literacy, family and emotional wellbeing, gender awareness, and legal response pathways for gender-based violence.

Participants engage their communities as Gender Point Persons to create locally tailored actions that promote safer households and improve access to support services.

The initiative also works with village-level committees and institutions to strengthen referral systems and long-term engagement in prevention and response efforts.

Community-Based Implementation & Prevention Systems Strengthening

Bangarpet Taluk, Kolar District, Karnataka

Duration

24 March 2026 – 2027

Problem/Need

Community Safety

Why Gender Harmony Matters

Gender-based violence remains widespread in Karnataka, while access to safety and support services remains limited.

In districts like Kolar, gaps in coordination, follow-up, and accountability often prevent timely and effective responses, leaving affected individuals and families to navigate fragmented systems on their own.

Weak prevention and response mechanisms can reinforce silence, isolation, and stigma, making help-seeking feel risky and inaccessible.

INNOVATION & USP

A Scalable Community-Centered Model

Gender Harmony uses a multi-tiered, women-centered approach that combines household-level norm change with village-level service linkage systems. Through participatory training, community action, and locally led prevention mechanisms, the project creates a scalable model addressing both prevention and response that can be adapted across diverse communities.
