In today’s fast-paced world, it is necessary to adapt to new technologies that will help us better prepare for the future, possibly even to survive. Prof. Gayathri Anand from Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham conducted a two-day #Lego #robotics workshop for 45 children from 7 schools in Thalassery, Panoor, and Kannur town in Kannur district, Kerala. The aim of the workshop was to combine technology literacy using robotics with soft skills, such as creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. Students were introduced to the basic concepts of programming and robotics through educational games and hands-on training with the Lego Mindstorms kit. The students learned to build, plan and program different kinds of robotic artifacts. They made different components in a robotic system to interact with each other to solve a variety of autonomous tasks. In the two days, they experienced a practical application of Mathematics and Science concepts to the physical world, thereby understanding and appreciating the physical constraints of a robot while operating in the real world. The final robotics challenge was a high energy stage performance starring robots. The workshop took place on September 7 & 8th and was a huge success.
