International MSW Student Gains Hands-On Experience in Community Development Through Internship at AMMACHI Labs
Amritapuri, India: Internships often serve as a bridge between academic learning and real-world impact. For Tyler Bell, a Master of Social Work (MSW) student from Fort Hays State University, USA, his internship at AMMACHI Labs provided a unique opportunity to contribute to community-driven development initiatives while gaining practical experience in research, field engagement, and sustainable livelihood programs.
During his internship, Tyler worked across two key projects that address critical development challenges in rural communities.
💧 Supporting Sustainable Water Management in Karnataka
As part of the WISE (Water and Integrated Sustainability Enhancement) Project in Karnataka, Tyler contributed to research and data analysis activities. He also supported the development of an innovative GPT-powered tool designed to help villagers better understand water resources, government regulations, and sustainable water management practices.
The initiative aims to make essential information more accessible and empower communities to make informed decisions regarding water conservation and usage.
🌊 Strengthening Women-Led Seaweed Enterprises in Tamil Nadu
Tyler also worked with the Seaweed Project in Tamil Nadu, where he assisted in field data collection, community engagement activities, documentation, and the creation of financial literacy training materials.
These efforts support women-led seaweed enterprises by strengthening business knowledge, improving financial management skills, and promoting sustainable livelihood opportunities in coastal communities.
Learning Through Collaboration and Community Engagement
Throughout his internship, Tyler collaborated with researchers, practitioners, and community members, gaining valuable insights into how innovative solutions are designed, tested, and implemented in partnership with rural communities.
The experience offered a firsthand understanding of participatory development approaches and the role of technology in addressing social and environmental challenges.
"I had an incredible time at AMMACHI Labs that allowed me to learn more about research, direct village engagement, see solutions implemented, and be a part of inspiring projects. I had the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues from around the world, hear directly from women in rural villages, and contribute to academic research and publications. I am deeply grateful for my time with AL."
His experience highlights the value of international academic partnerships and experiential learning opportunities that connect students with meaningful community development work.
Thank You, Tyler!
AMMACHI Labs extends its gratitude to Tyler for his enthusiasm, dedication, and contributions throughout his internship and wishes him continued success as he advances in his social work career and future endeavors.
