Last week, the Robotics for Education #R4E team conducted a study called ”Examining factors associated with intrinsic motivation in young people for learning simulation based robotics: a qualitative approach” with 6 students. The study focused on competitive robotics and was lead by Prof. Gayathri Manikutty and Kavin Prasad S and Vishnu Somasekhar. The children participated in an 11 hour training in the Lego Digital Designer simulation software for Lego robotics and a Virtual Robotics Toolkit during their December Winter holidays. After the training, the children were given a mini, 3 week challenge using the Lego Mindstorms EV3 kit. They had a 4-hour per week time limit to use the physical robotics kit but had unlimited time to work with the simulation software. After the competition, the students were interviewed to get their perspectives about the competition which was very positive! Here’s a short video of the first few rounds of the mini robotics competition. #robotics
