Shanker Ramesh, Mechanical Design Engineer at AMMACHI Labs presented the paper titled “Design and Emotional Evaluation of Pepe Jr.: A cost-effective platform for HRI studies” at International Conference on Distributed Computing, VLSI, Electrical Circuits and Robotics (DISCOVER 2018) held at MITE Moodabidri.
The paper talks about the mechanical and electronic design aspects of the robot, the design of the motion patterns associated with each emotion expressed by the robot and also, their evaluation. A team of researchers has put their effort in bringing Pepe Jr. into life.
Shanker Ramesh and Alekh Velayudhan did the mechanical design and manufacturing of the bot, Sooraj Krishna, and Nidhin Sugunan designed actuation module and system architecture and Sooraj K Babu designed the emotion evaluation software.
The team was successful in designing and evaluating 6 different emotions
