Sunita Devi lives in Kanti Village #Harayana. She is a school dropout and her husband works intermittently as a landless laborer averaging only 10 working days per month. A year ago, Sunita enrolled into AMMACHI Labs’ Rural Toilet Builder Course and her life was changed.
In Sunita’s words, “Initially I thought it to be hard for woman to learn as men were so strongly opposed to the idea. But as we were trained we acquired the confidence and skills very quickly. I joined thinking, if nothing else, at least I will benefit by getting a toilet. But after going through the training & awareness programs, I realized how important is to acquire new skills to bring change in the community we live in”.
“I have learned the masonry skills and foresee potential employment in nearby construction companies once the toilets for village is built. I am happy that I can support my family and continue my children’s education for their bright future. I also plan to keep the women’s group together and I have been helping them keep a good balance between the course learning & their household duty. We work with lot of fun & enthusiasm and it’s a great way of community involvement and engagement”.
These programs from AMMACHI Labs play an important role for the empowerment of rural women while developing our confidence and business skills”.
