Bengaluru, India – May 30, 2025 — Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham proudly hosted the latest meeting of the South Asia Chapter of Women for Ethical AI (W4EAI) at its Bengaluru Campus, marking a vital step in regional efforts to promote inclusive, ethical, and gender-equitable AI systems.
The Women for Ethical AI initiative, jointly led by Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and the UNESCO New Delhi Office, was first launched during the International Conference on Gender & Technology 2025. As Chair and Secretariat, the two institutions continue to amplify the voices of South Asian women in the field of artificial intelligence, tackling the region’s unique challenges and opportunities through a collaborative and inclusive approach.
The meeting brought together distinguished leaders and experts:
🔹 Dr. Bhavani Rao, UNESCO Chair on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment, represented Amrita and chaired the session, alongside delegates from Amritapuri and Bengaluru campuses.
🔹 Ms. Eunsong Kim, Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Specialist at UNESCO New Delhi, contributed valuable insight from a regional and international policy perspective.
🔹 Participants included a diverse group of representatives from government, academia, civil society, and the private sector, reflecting the interdisciplinary strength of the initiative.
Focus Areas & Next Steps
In anticipation of the upcoming AI Impact Summit in February 2026, the gathering focused on defining actionable strategies across three core workstreams:
Policy & Advocacy – Strengthening ethical frameworks and national dialogues.
Research & Innovation – Promoting inclusive AI research that centers women’s experiences.
Inclusion & Equity – Expanding participation of women and underrepresented communities in AI leadership and development.
This regional effort aligns with the goals of the global Women for Ethical AI Network, headquartered at UNESCO Paris, which aims to ensure AI technologies are designed and governed with fairness, transparency, and human dignity at their core.
