March 2025 – In a significant step toward mitigating human-elephant conflicts, AMMACHI Labs has successfully installed the second Amrita Elephant Watch AI-powered detection system in Brahmaniapal village, Odisha, as part of the WADI project. This follows the successful deployment of the first system in Tamil Nadu, marking another milestone in the application of technology for wildlife conservation.
Harnessing Solar Power for Sustainability
To ensure uninterrupted functionality in remote areas, the entire system is powered by solar energy. This eco-friendly approach guarantees sustainability while reducing dependency on conventional power sources. A Collaborative Effort
The deployment of the system was made possible through the dedication of AMMACHI Labs’ rural tech team, who meticulously planned and executed the installation. From measuring and selecting optimal locations to coordinating with local vendors for high-quality solar panels and batteries, their efforts ensured a seamless setup.
24/7 Monitoring for Elephant Safety
Three solar-powered cameras have been strategically placed near a water hole frequently visited by elephants. These cameras operate round-the-clock, detecting elephant movement in real time. Once an elephant is detected, the system immediately sends image and video alerts, helping local communities stay informed and take necessary precautions.
