Empowering Women in Wayanad: AMMACHI Labs Celebrates Certificate Ceremony for 112 Women

Wayanad, June 11, 2025 — In a powerful testament to resilience and empowerment, AMMACHI Labs hosted a moving certificate ceremony for 112 women from the landslide-affected communities of Chooralmala and Mudaikunnu in Wayanad. These women, many of whom faced significant challenges in the wake of natural disasters, successfully completed skill development programs under the Amrita Sustainable Livelihoods and Disaster Resilience Program.

The event celebrated:

  • 87 women trained in self-employed tailoring, equipping them to generate sustainable incomes through home-based enterprises.

  • 25 women who completed a foundational computer course, including training in MS Office and Tally, opening pathways to digital literacy and employment.

The dignitaries in attendance included Hon. MLA Adv. T. Siddique and Asst. District Collector Smt. Archana P P, IAS, both of whom applauded the women’s dedication and praised Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham for its continued commitment to rural empowerment and inclusive development.

In a deeply inspiring moment, Swami Vedamritanandapuri, Mathadhipathi of M.A. Math, Meppadi, delivered the benedictory address, reinforcing the importance of inner strength, education, and community support in the path to recovery.

Adding to the celebratory spirit, the tailoring graduates presented hand-embroidered shawls to the dignitaries—a gesture of heartfelt gratitude symbolizing the skills and confidence they gained. Dr. Bhavani Rao, Director of AMMACHI Labs and the Center for Women’s Empowerment & Gender Equality, personally draped the shawls over the guests, honoring their support and presence.

A particularly emotional moment came when the computer course students presented a handmade gift to Amma, expressing their sincere gratitude for the opportunity to rebuild and reimagine their futures. The gesture underscored the transformative impact of Amma’s vision and the unwavering support system nurtured by Amrita’s grassroots initiatives.

The ceremony concluded with a warm vote of thanks delivered by Bri. Karunyamrita Chaitanya, appreciating the collective effort of trainers, community leaders, and volunteers who made the program a success.

This event not only marked the completion of skill training but also symbolized a new chapter of hope, dignity, and economic independence for women in Wayanad’s remote and disaster-affected regions.
