A Month of Livelihoods, Skills & Enterprise
During June 2026, the WE Project Store facilitated a range of market-linked livelihood activities, artisan orders, skill development programmes, exhibitions and product-development initiatives. These activities created opportunities for women artisans to generate income, strengthen their skills and connect with wider markets.
Date-wise Activities
Jagannath Puri Crochet Doll Order
The WE Project Store received an order from Mr. Dinesh Neela, USA, for 10 handcrafted Jagannath Puri crochet dolls. The order was assigned to Artisan Bincy, a beneficiary and former trainee of the Sankalp Project.
The completed order was delivered to AMMACHI Labs on 11 June 2026 within the stipulated timeline.
Garment Stitching Order
A garment stitching order was received from client Sharini. Aswathy Chechi undertook the order and successfully completed the stitching according to the client's requirements.
The finished garments were delivered on 12 June, ensuring customer satisfaction.
WE STORE at Thrissur
The WE STORE exhibited at the third stop of Amma's South Indian Tour of 2026 at Amrita Vidyalayam, Thrissur.
Amrita Vidyalayam students actively participated in stall setup and sales, gaining practical exposure to sales, transactions and small-business operations.
WE STORE Exhibition at Kochi
The WE STORE exhibited at the Bramasthanam Premises of the Ashram in Kochi, marking the last stop of Amma's South Indian Tour of 2026.
Despite the rains, customers visited the stall and purchased products from the WE STORE.
Crochet Skill Development Training
Artisan Bincy conducted a Crochet Skill Development Training Programme at Vadakenkottayil, Kochi, for five participants.
The practical training covered crochet hooks, foundation chains, basic stitches, stitch consistency and simple crochet patterns.
Coconut Shell Candle Order
The WE STORE received an order from the Eco Store for 25 coconut shell candles.
Polished coconut shells were procured from Thenga, a women-led brand supporting women artisans. After quality checking, the shells were packed and couriered to Uma Chechi, an artisan from Kannur, for candle production.
Senior Journalists' Forum Conference Bags
The WE Project Store received an order from the Senior Journalists' Forum for customized conference bags for its 13th State Conference in Kollam.
The order was assigned to Sivatsakthi Self-Help Group (SHG), Katilkadavu, Kollam. The SHG members handled fabric cutting, stitching, logo-printing coordination, finishing and quality inspection.
The order was completed and delivered on 19 June within the stipulated timeline, generating income for the women artisans while strengthening their experience in executing institutional orders.
Artisan Network Expansion
Aswathy Chechi, an existing WE Store artisan, introduced Remya Chechi to the WE Store team and accompanied her to meet the team.
The interaction introduced Remya Chechi to the WE Store's mission, artisan network and potential livelihood opportunities.
Online Millet Cake Baking Workshop
AMMACHI Labs–CWEGE, through the WE Project Store, organized a 4-hour online Millet Cake Baking Workshop in collaboration with Chef Khushi Jain.
The programme was attended by 19 women participants from Self-Help Groups, tailoring groups, mural artists and women artisans.
The workshop covered millet cake preparation, recipe costing, pricing, packaging, branding and basic marketing strategies.
Embroidery & Upcycling
The in-house embroidery artisan demonstrated how sample bags can be transformed into aesthetically enhanced, value-added products through creative hand embroidery, innovative design patterns and intricate beadwork.
The initiative showcased the potential for upcycling sample bags into unique and marketable products with increased commercial appeal.
From Institutional Order to Women's Livelihood
The Senior Journalists' Forum conference-bag order connected an institutional requirement with the production capabilities of Sivatsakthi Self-Help Group, Katilkadavu, Kollam.
The women artisans managed the production process from fabric cutting and stitching through finishing and quality inspection, demonstrating their capacity to undertake institutional orders within defined timelines.
The completed order generated income while strengthening production skills and experience in market-linked community-based enterprise.
