AMMACHI Labs and L&T CSTI Explore the Future of Technology-Enabled Construction Skills Training

Pilkhuwa, Uttar Pradesh: As the construction industry continues to embrace digital technologies and automation, the need for technology-enabled and industry-relevant skills training is becoming increasingly important. In this context, AMMACHI Labs recently continued its engagement with the L&T Construction Skills Training Institute (CSTI), Pilkhuwa, through an insightful interaction focused on the future of construction skills development.

Asst. Prof. and Research Lead at AMMACHI Labs, Gayathri Anand Manikutty, visited L&T CSTI, Pilkhuwa, for discussions on emerging approaches to construction training and the role of simulation technologies in preparing workers for evolving industry requirements.

The engagement builds on a collaboration that began in 2017, when AMMACHI Labs developed a custom haptics-based simulator for construction rebar bending for L&T CSTI Pilkhuwa. The simulator was designed to provide trainees with an opportunity to practise key construction skills in a simulated environment before applying them in real-world settings.

During the recent visit, Mr. Kamaljit Singh Mehrok, Principal, CSTI Pilkhuwa, L&T Construction, shared continued positive feedback on the AMMACHI Labs Bar Bending Simulator. He highlighted its potential to contribute to the digitalisation of skill training, particularly by enabling trainees to develop practical skills through simulation before transitioning to actual construction environments.

The interaction also provided an opportunity to discuss how construction training is evolving alongside increasing automation and technological advancement in the sector. Simulation technologies can complement conventional hands-on training by providing a safe and controlled environment for repeated practice, while also introducing trainees to technology-driven workflows.

The discussions highlighted the growing importance of equipping the construction workforce with skills that are relevant to changing workplace requirements. Technology-enabled training solutions can play a role not only in strengthening foundational practical skills but also in helping trainees become familiar with emerging technologies and automated processes.

The continued engagement between AMMACHI Labs and L&T CSTI reflects the importance of industry-academia collaboration in developing practical, technology-driven approaches to skill development.
