AMMACHI Labs Hosts NUS Faculty Member for Research and Technology Exchange

Amritapuri, September 17, 2026: AMMACHI Labs welcomed Dr. Saji Sreedharan, Associate Professor in the Department of Physiology at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS), on September 17, 2026. He was accompanied by Dr. Vandana Balakrishnan from the Department of Physiology, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS), Kochi.

The visit provided an opportunity for an academic and interdisciplinary exchange, introducing the visiting faculty members to AMMACHI Labs’ research, vision and technology-driven initiatives. Discussions explored the potential applications of artificial intelligence, robotics and immersive technologies in addressing real-world challenges across different sectors.

Technology Demonstrations

As part of the visit, the AMMACHI Labs team demonstrated three ongoing technology initiatives, showcasing the organisation’s work at the intersection of emerging technologies, human-centred design and social impact.

ElephantWatch

ElephantWatch is an AI-enhanced early-warning system designed to support human–elephant coexistence. The system uses real-time elephant detection capabilities to identify elephant movement and facilitate automated alerts to communities, with the aim of supporting timely responses and improving human-wildlife coexistence.

HaKsh-E

The team also demonstrated HaKsh-E, an AI-powered social robot designed to encourage healthy handwashing habits among children. Using computer vision and interactive feedback, the system engages children in learning and practising appropriate handwashing behaviours.

Bar Bending Simulator

The third demonstration was the Bar Bending Simulator, a haptic-based training platform that combines a virtual environment with visual, audio and haptic feedback. The system is designed to provide an immersive training experience for learning and evaluating rebar-bending skills.

Together, the demonstrations highlighted AMMACHI Labs’ approach to applying emerging technologies to practical challenges in areas including health, education, workplace skills and environmental sustainability.

Enabling Interdisciplinary Collaboration

The interaction also facilitated knowledge exchange across disciplines, bringing together perspectives from physiology, healthcare, artificial intelligence, robotics and social impact. The visit provided a platform to discuss potential areas of collaboration and explore opportunities for future interdisciplinary engagement.

Such interactions contribute to AMMACHI Labs’ broader efforts to develop and demonstrate human-centred technologies that can address community needs and support inclusive and sustainable development.

AMMACHI Labs expressed its appreciation to Dr. Saji Sreedharan and Dr. Vandana Balakrishnan for their visit and for engaging with the team’s research, technologies and ongoing initiatives.
