AMMACHI Labs’ Seaweed Cultivation Course Takes Students on Educational Industrial Visit

April 30th, 2024 – Students enrolled in AMMACHI Labs’ Seaweed cultivation course recently embarked on an enlightening industrial visit to marinelixir, a renowned Seaweed Processing company located in Mandapam. This educational excursion provided students with firsthand insights into the processing techniques of seaweeds, offering a glimpse into the intricate process of sap collection and the innovative utilization of cartagena residues within the food industry.

During their visit, Mr. Karthikeyan and his team warmly welcomed the students, offering a comprehensive tour of their state-of-the-art laboratory facilities. Engaging discussions ensued, covering a wide array of topics ranging from the meticulous quality checks employed for biofertilizers to the latest advancements in seaweed processing technologies.

The immersive experience left a lasting impact on the students, who expressed their enthusiasm and appreciation for the opportunity to witness industry practices firsthand. The visit not only enriched their theoretical knowledge but also provided practical insights into the complexities of seaweed processing and its diverse applications.

As part of their educational journey, the students also had the privilege of visiting Munaikadu Village, renowned for its longstanding tradition of seaweed cultivation using the Raft Method for over 15 years. Interacting with experienced seaweed cultivators in the village, the students gained invaluable insights into traditional cultivation techniques and sustainable practices.

This industrial visit marks a significant component of AMMACHI Labs’ Seaweed Cultivation course, which is conducted in partnership and joint funding between Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and Transworld Group of Companies. This collaborative effort aims to provide students with a holistic learning experience, combining theoretical knowledge with practical exposure to industry best practices.

The success of this educational initiative underscores the commitment of both institutions towards fostering a new generation of skilled professionals in the field of seaweed cultivation and sustainable agriculture.
