Amrita Hospital’s Clinical Nutrition Team Supports Women’s Health in Coastal Tamil Nadu

April 17–19, 2025 | Ramanathapuram, Tamil Nadu — A dedicated team from the Department of Clinical Nutrition at Amrita Hospital, Kochi, recently conducted a three-day field visit to support the health and well-being of women engaged in ocean farming initiatives in Ramanathapuram district.

Visiting the coastal villages of Solaikudi, Morpannai, Sambai, and Thondi, the team carried out comprehensive health screenings, nutritional assessments, and awareness sessions focused on promoting balanced diets and wellness. Women in the community actively participated, voicing their health concerns and showing great enthusiasm to learn about nutrition and healthy lifestyle practices.

In addition to the assessments, the team collected locally harvested edible seaweeds—a staple in the diets of many coastal communities—and plans to experiment with innovative, nutritious recipes using these marine superfoods.

This meaningful collaboration highlights the vital intersection of community health, traditional knowledge, and sustainable livelihoods, and reflects Amrita Hospital’s ongoing commitment to holistic rural outreach.
