Village Women Take a Stand: SHG-Led Protest Pushes for Closure of Liquor Shop in Sarai Nooruddinpur

Sarai Nooruddinpur, April 21, 2025 — In a powerful show of community solidarity, the women of the AMMACHI Labs Self-Help Group (SHG) in Sarai Nooruddinpur rallied together to demand a safer and healthier environment for their village.

The issue at the heart of their protest was a local liquor shop situated at the entrance of the village—an establishment that not only posed a daily threat to the safety of women and school-going girls but also contributed to a rising tide of alcohol addiction among village youth.

Led by the SHG President, the local Facilitator, and the Village Head, the women conducted a peaceful march through Sarai Nooruddinpur, raising awareness about the detrimental impact of the shop on the community. Holding signs and voicing their concerns, the women demanded meaningful change.

The demonstration culminated with the submission of a signed petition to the local Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), urging immediate action to shut down the establishment. Though the protest saw a brief verbal exchange, the SSP responded positively, assuring the group that the liquor shop would be removed from the village within a week.

This bold initiative stands as a shining example of grassroots mobilization and the strength of collective action. It underscores the critical importance of creating safe spaces—especially for women and children—to ensure equitable access to education and opportunities.

At AMMACHI Labs, community empowerment lies at the heart of our mission. Through education, technology, and social awareness, we continue to support and uplift voices driving sustainable change from within.
