August 17–18, 2025, Soliyakudi and Olaikuda, Tamil Nadu – AMMACHI Labs organized a hands-on seaweed soap-making training in the coastal villages of Soliyakudi and Olaikuda, igniting creativity and confidence among local women.
Highlights from the Training:
19 women actively participated across both villages.
Gained practical knowledge of the entire soap-making process, with emphasis on hygiene and safety.
Practiced wrapping and presentation skills to prepare products for market.
Built confidence to pursue soap-making as a sustainable livelihood opportunity.
The sessions were marked by enthusiasm and innovation. Participants not only acquired new skills but also left inspired to explore income generation through micro-enterprises, strengthening both their families and their communities.
This initiative is part of AMMACHI Labs’ Ocean Farming & Livelihood Projects, implemented by Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, in partnership with Transworld, GEF Small Grants Programme Operational Phase 7, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Government of India, and TERI – The Energy and Resources Institute.
