Empowering Women in the Blue Economy: AMMACHI Labs Ocean Farming Team Advances Sustainable Coastal Livelihoods

July 22–30, 2025 – Members of the AMMACHI Labs Ocean Farming team actively engaged in a series of coastal development activities across Tamil Nadu, driving sustainable marine livelihoods and enhancing women’s participation in the blue economy.

Soliyakudi

  • 19 women trained in the tube net method of seaweed cultivation.

  • Each participant prepared three tube nets.

  • The first batch, deployed on July 2, demonstrated impressive results—growth from 0.5g to 1.5kg in just 18 days—indicating the method’s strong potential.

Thondi

  • Conducted community mobilization meetings to strengthen local engagement.

  • Women completed tube net preparation.

  • Deployment is scheduled for August 4–5.

Olaikuda

  • Four women independently purchased seaweed seed, showcasing increased self-reliance in marine farming.

Munekad

  • Seabass seed purchased for two Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) cages, promoting diversification in aquaculture practices.

These milestones highlight AMMACHI Labs’ ongoing commitment to capacity building, sustainable aquaculture, and fostering enabling environments for women-led marine enterprises.
