Prominent Academics Visit AMMACHI Labs and The Center for Women’s Empowerment & Gender Equality

June 11, 2024, AMMACHI Labs and The Center for Women’s Empowerment & Gender Equality were honored to host Dr. Patricia Lago, a Full Professor from the Faculty of Science, Software and Sustainability (S2) at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, and Mr. Markus Funke, a Ph.D. researcher specializing in Sustainable Development from the same university.

During their visit, Dr. Lago and Mr. Funke were introduced to the mission, objectives, and various ongoing initiatives and projects at AMMACHI Labs. The visit featured live demonstrations of several advanced technologies developed by the lab. Among the highlights was the Haptic Simulator for Bar Bending, a cutting-edge tool designed to enhance vocational training through immersive, tactile feedback.

Dr. Lago and Mr. Funke also experienced a virtual reality simulation related to scaffolding, which aims to improve safety and efficiency in construction practices. Another key demonstration was ElephantWatch, an AI-powered early alert system designed to detect and alert farmers or authorities about the presence of elephants, significantly reducing human-animal conflicts.

Furthermore, Dr. Lago had an in-depth interaction with the Haksh-E Social Robot. This engagement provided her with a comprehensive understanding of the robot’s capabilities and functionalities, showcasing its potential applications in social and educational settings.

The visit concluded with an enthusiastic exchange of ideas and discussions on potential collaborations, marking a significant step towards advancing sustainable development and gender equality through technological innovation.
