School Outreach Activities with Haksh-E on Handwashing

November 2 & 13, 2023 – A team from Ammachi Labs accompanied a team of researchers from School of Biotechnology, Amrita University, Amritapuri Campus ASBT, for outreach activities on Preventing Antimicrobial Resistance, towards World Health Organization’s World AMR (Antimicrobial Resistance) Awareness Week, WAAW.

The aim of the outreach activities was to create awareness among schools’ students about AMR; prevention of communicable diseases being one aspect of it. The AMMACHI Labs team brought its Artificial Intelligence enabled Haksh-E social robot to interact with the children about the importance of Handwashing.

– On November 2, Haksh-E was brought to the B J S M Madathil V.H.S. School near Karunagappally. More than 300 students attended the program and enjoyed watching and learning as 14 of the students came forward and interacted with the robot. All the children were amazed to hear the precision in the robot’s responses and enjoyed interacting with it.

– On November 13, Haksh-E was brought to the Stratford Public School in Thevalakkara, Kollam. The children were again thrilled to interact with Haksh-E, and were satisfied with the answers it provided.

The school children in both schools gained good knowledge about the importance of handwashing, the steps of handwashing, the minimum time required for handwashing, etc.

This outreach was also planned as a part of the upcoming two-day hybrid international conference, Amrita Legion for Antimicrobial Resistance Management (ALARM) 2023.
