Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan: As part of the Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat – 100 Weeks Nasha Mukt Yuva Abhiyan, communities across Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan came together to promote awareness about substance abuse and reaffirm their commitment to building healthier, drug-free communities.
Field staff from AMMACHI Labs and Amrita’s Center for Women’s Empowerment & Gender Equality (CWEGE) organised community pledge activities across five villages, bringing together youth and community members to collectively stand against substance abuse.
The pledge activities encouraged participants to take responsibility for creating safer and healthier environments within their families and communities. Participants committed to working towards keeping their communities free from drugs, while also helping spread awareness about the harmful effects of substance abuse.
From Pledge to Community Action
The initiative goes beyond a one-day pledge. Community members were encouraged to carry the message forward within their villages, engage others in conversations around substance abuse and promote healthy, responsible and productive lifestyles among young people.
By encouraging community participation, the campaign seeks to strengthen local awareness and collective responsibility in addressing substance abuse and its impact on individuals, families and communities.
Five Villages Across Three States
The community activities were conducted across five villages in three states:
- Morasia, Bihar
- Ratanpur, Bihar
- Sarai Nooruddinpur, Uttar Pradesh
- Harsani, Rajasthan
- Girab, Rajasthan
The participation of youth and community members across these locations reflects the importance of locally rooted awareness and engagement in addressing issues that affect community wellbeing.
Building Healthier Futures
Inspired by the vision and compassionate guidance of Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma), the initiative encourages individuals and communities to come together, take collective responsibility and work towards healthier and more positive futures for the next generation.
Through continued community engagement, AMMACHI Labs and the Center for Women’s Empowerment & Gender Equality are supporting the spread of the Nasha Mukt Yuva message through their programmes and projects across India.
The initiative reinforces a simple but important message: building a drug-free society requires awareness, community participation and sustained action. By empowering young people and communities to take an active role, the campaign contributes to the broader vision of healthier, responsible and resilient communities.
