Extensive toilet building under the Swachh Bharat Mission – Urban started at Dewgain village, Jharkhand (inagurated by the Block Development Officer). This is the first village in the whole Panchayat (district) where work started. We managed to get the work order & funding passed within 5 days of our visit through marathon meetings with key officials including the District Collector. The news has got a wide coverage & has been published in the ‘Aaj’ & ‘Sanmarg’ newspapers. It broadly states, women in this village has pledged to finish building toilets within a month’s’ time and to further pledge to use and maintain it. The news adds, all this has happened because of the MA Math’s skill development training whereby a dozen of women have learned masonry skills and how these efforts continue to play a significant role in the economic, social upliftment of this village.
