Inauguration of a stitching centre by Sankalp students – Kuzhithura

January 18, 2024 –  The inauguration of the “Blossom stitching Centre”,  established in Kuzhithura (near Amritapuri) by 10 students from the Amrita Sankalp Yogashala Tailoring center, took place today. The ceremony was attended by ward member Smt.Remya, Karayogam president Sri. Sukeshan, and Secretary Sri. Amal. The unit had started its activities using the sewing machines offered to them by the Sankalp team. The center’s space includes a small shop for hair accessories and similar items for ladies.

This inauguration came as a long term result for the SANKALP project (Skill Acquisition and Knowledge Awareness for Livelihood Promotion project), a program of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Government of India, and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). It was implemented in various parts of India by Amrita University, to boost short term Skill Training programs for long term benefits through strengthening institutions, bringing in better market connectivity and inclusion of marginalized sections of the society. Through the training, women gained the skills and confidence they needed to start their own business.
