Prof. Bhavani Chechi, Chris Kripasagar Coley and Karen Sneha Moawad participated at #CSW62: The 62nd session of the Commission on the Status of Women at the UN Headquarters in New York City. The priority theme this year was “Challenges and opportunities in achieving gender equality and the empowerment of rural women and girls.”

Professor Bhavani was a featured panelist at the session: “Empowerment Through Democracy, Civil Society and Innovation,” a side event hosted by the UN Democracy Fund during the Session of the Commission on Status of Women. The interactive panel session showcased several UNDEF Projects from around the world which focus on women’s empowerment. Professor Bhavani’s talk: “Women as Champions of Sanitation and Innovative Vocational Education,” presented the successes of the Amrita’s Women’s Empowerment: Community Sanitation through Democratic Participation (#WE:CSDP) Project and highlighted our women’s empowerment interventions in rural villages in India.
