Women of Olaikkadu Village, Tamil Nadu, receive their seaweed cultivation training certificates on Women’s Day.

On March 8, 2024, which coincides with Women’s Day, a significant event took place in Olaikkadu Village, Tamil Nadu. The women of this village received their Seaweed Cultivation Training Certificates from members of the AMMACHI Labs team. This event marks an important step towards empowering women in the village and enhancing their livelihood opportunities.

The training provided by Amrita University through its AMMACHI Labs has equipped these women with the necessary skills and knowledge to engage in seaweed cultivation. Seaweed cultivation holds promise as a sustainable and profitable venture due to its various applications in industries such as food, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals.

After completing the training, the women of Olaikkadu Village are now putting their newfound knowledge into practice. They have embarked on a business venture focused on producing seaweed-based products, specifically seaweed pickle and seaweed soaps. By leveraging the guidance and support received from Amrita University, these women are not only generating income for themselves but also contributing to the local economy through their entrepreneurial endeavors.

The success of this project is attributed to the partnership and joint funding between Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham and Transworld Group of Companies. This collaboration has provided the necessary resources and support to facilitate the training and establishment of the seaweed-based business, underscoring the importance of public-private partnerships in driving socio-economic development at the grassroots level.
